REAL ID: if you don't have one, there will be a $45 fee: https://www.tsa.gov/

Beginning May 7, 2025, travelers flying domestically within the United States are required to present a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or another TSA-approved form of identification, such as a passport, at airport security checkpoints. A REAL ID can typically be identified by the star located in the upper corner of the license or identification card. Having the proper identification before traveling can help passengers avoid delays, additional screening, and unnecessary stress at the airport.

Travelers who arrive at the airport without a REAL ID or other acceptable identification may be required to complete TSA’s alternative identity verification process, known as TSA Confirm ID. Beginning February 1, 2026, this process includes a nonrefundable $45 fee for identity verification services. To avoid added costs and possible travel delays, passengers are encouraged to obtain a REAL ID well before their next trip.

DHS ends the Shoes-Off Travel Policy

The Department of Homeland Security has begun phasing out its long-standing “shoes-off” airport security rule, signaling a shift toward faster, less intrusive screening. Thanks to improved scanning technology and risk-based security measures, many travelers may no longer need to remove their shoes at TSA checkpoints, helping streamline the airport experience while maintaining safety standards.
